Cornerstone laid for Four Seasons hotel in Beirut
On May 29th, President Emile Lahoud and Prince Alwaleed bin Talal laid the cornerstone for the prestigious Four Seasons Hotel building on Saturday in Beirut. It is expected to be completed in 2006.
Lahoud said that the new hotel is proof that Lebanon has great tourist potential.
"Tourism in Lebanon is as important as industry and agriculture," Lahoud said during the ceremony.
The 25-story building will soar 120 meters in height and will include 230 rooms and suites, "with a particularly high number of suite counts," said Sarmad Zok, the chief operating officer of Kingdom Hotel Investment Group, the developer of the project. There will also be a couple of restaurants, lounges, a state-of-the art health and fitness facility and a tunnel (shared by the hotel and the adjacent Marina Towers) leading to the new Beirut Western Marina. "The interior design of the hotel will be contemporary and elegant so that it doesn't lose allure with time," continued Zok.

This area is a prime focus in the city’s re-positioning as a leading commercial, financial and cultural center of the Middle East. Located on the Corniche, opposite a new marina and adjacent to a large park now in planning, the Hotel will offer both ocean and mountain views. Historic sites and the Souk shopping district are a short walk away.

The mixed-use site will include residences, retail outlets and offices. The Hotel structure is expected to feature a seven-story podium and a 19-story tower housing 287 guest rooms and suites, with a small health club and pool on top. Two restaurants will be complemented by a tea lounge and library bar; a business center and meeting space will open up new options for corporate travelers.
